All New Air Tube System at Leeds General Infirmary

15th May 2017

The popularity of aerocom pneumatic tube systems in UK hospitals evolves through reputation, and tube systems don’t come much bigger that the current lifecycle renovation project being carried out at Leeds General Infirmary.

The LGI site is a huge, and an interesting challenge for aerocom who were successful in the tender bid despite major competition from other UK tube system suppliers. The original system was just under 120 stations with an estimated tube infrastructure of approximately 10km. Age related wear and tear is inevitable and the system which served the hospital faithfully for 18 years was approaching its final stage of lifecycle.

Parts of the hospital date back 200 years and contains listed buildings, being located geographically in the centre of Leeds generates a huge amount of public interest. The old medical school building where the laboratories are located is a fantastic piece of architecture; we plan to be very careful not to damage the buildings aesthetically and try our best to blend modern technology with history.

We are experienced and proficient at Aerocom (UK) Ltd and through extensive planning and liaison with the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust are right on schedule to deliver another landmark AC3000 system. We look forward to the final delivery and proving once again a medical client has made the right choice in a partnership with Aerocom (UK) Ltd as a service provider.

We plan to instil the medical staff with a renewed confidence and high interest level in the new system which could potentially be one of the busiest pneumatic tube system in the UK considering the size and bed capacity of LGI. Not only will this be another lifecycle success story, it will once again prove the benefits of installing a PTS in any medical facility, and support our claim the investment is quickly returned by the savings made on manual handling of samples, document and small packages around the campus.
